    Did you know...

    Work experience; an up and coming way to spend your gap year 1. That public school students make up less than 20% of those who take gap years?

    2. That the fastest growing gap year sectors include;

    A. Working to earn money for university
    B. Gaining work experience relevant to a future degree or career
    C. Volunteering close to home

    3. The gap year is traditionally associated with public school kids travelling overseas to lend a hand in developing countries. However, this view hasn't been accurate for over 10 years now - less than 6% do some sort of supported placement.

    Over the next three to five years, over 100,000 young people are predicted to take gap years; with the biggest growth area those who probably won't head to university at all. These young people will use this time constructively to work out what they want to do in life whilst gaining life skills and confidence.

    The purpose of this section is to give independent gap year advice and ideas to enable Connexions Advisers to advise young people considering a gap year with correct, up to date information, encouragement and inspiration.

    Over the years, gapyear.com has given assistance to many Connexions Advisers; as a result of the problems with top up fees in 2005 and how to advise students wanting to defer a few Connexions advisors asked us if we could create an area on the site specifically for them. We were happy to oblige - and here it is.

    This section is a dedicated area for your use, so if you have suggestions for inclusions or improvements, please don't hesitate to contact us on 0845 344 7666 or email me direct at tomgriffiths@gapyear.com.
