Real life travel insurance pay outsWe were going to stick in loads and loads of tales of people coming off mopeds, falling off balconies, diving into the shallow end of swimming pools and hurting themselves badly. Broken bones and necks, all nice, spine shivering (or shattering even) images. We were possibly going to stick in a few gory photos, highlight how much it all cost, go into detail about being airlifted by helicopter to the nearest hospital, life saving operations, have heart wrenching stories from parents and cosy little 'do you know what, if I hadn't been insured then my parents would have had to sell their house' endings. But then we thought, why bother? The purpose of this section is to make sure you get travel insurance before you head off. Many people say 'Well, I'm not going to bungy jump or throw myself out of planes - I'll be ok'. Well, have a read below. These are real, simple examples we have used elsewhere in this section. These guys might have thought the same, but luckily were insured. Their accidents? The sort of stuff that could happen to you... - Sarah A slipped off a curb in Prague. Her broken ankle cost over £4,000+ to sort out - Jamie R fell off a donkey in Spain. His broken thigh cost over £9,000 to fix - Jason P felt ill when he was trekking in the Himalayan mountains. The airlift from the mountain and medical bills came to over £50,000 - Duncan C dived into shallow water whilst drunk on Bondi Beach on Christmas day. £150,000 later he was back in the UK recovering (* There are no surnames as we are not allowed to give them.
